2012 is a significant milestone year for Scottish waste and resources policy, with the approval of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012.
These set out a legislative framework for increased recovery and processing of a range of valuable resources, and indicate a clear direction of travel towards Scotland’s Zero Waste intentions.
In this first Scotland Policy Statement our objective is to highlight some of the key opportunities and challenges presented by the Scottish resources policy agenda.

The Resource Association responds to the Government consultation on Producer Responsibility Obligations for packaging by supporting the Governments’ proposed higher targets, but expressed concern about the operation of the PRN/PERN system in relation to UK reprocessors, particularly of plastics and glass.
