ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT COMMITTEE REPORT ON DISPOSABLE PACKAGING WELCOMED – MORE SUPPORT NEEDED FOR ‘ON THE GO’ RECYCLING; REPROCESSORS ARE RESPONDING

Friday, January 5, 2018

The Resource Association has welcomed the publication of the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee’s report on Disposable Packaging: Coffee Cups as an important contribution to the debate, drawing attention to this significant consumer concern.

Chief Executive Ray Georgeson commented:

“The Resource Association welcomes the attention being placed by the Environmental Audit Committee on the issues surrounding disposable packaging in what we consider to be a major consumer issue.  Our reprocessor members with an interest in utilising the recyclate available in disposable coffee cups such as ACE-UK and DS Smith are actively working with the coffee cup supply chain to address the issue.”

“Infrastructure for the collection, sorting and recycling of ‘on the go’ disposable products has not kept pace with society’s demand for convenience food and drink.  It is recognised that there must be investment to improve the nation’s limited ‘on the go’ recycling collection infrastructure and to support the technology and capacity investments that are needed to ensure that materials collected are efficiently recycled with quality at the heart of the process.”
